Ghana Education Service confirms approval for payment of salary arrears from August 2024 to November 2025, with disbursement set in instalments from May 2026.


GES Announces Payment of Salary Arrears

The (GES) has confirmed that the has approved the payment of salary arrears owed to eligible staff.

In a directive dated April 20, 2026, and addressed to Regional Directors, GES Management indicated that the (CAGD) will facilitate the payments.


Arrears Cover 16-Month Period

The arrears span from August 1, 2024, to November 2025, representing a total of 16 months of outstanding payments.

The approval follows a formal communication from the Ministry of Finance under the 2024 financial clearance utilization framework for GES.


Payment to Be Made in Instalments

According to the statement signed by Prof. , Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), the arrears will be paid in instalments.

The schedule outlined includes:

  • May 2026: 4 months of arrears
  • June 2026: 4 months of arrears
  • July 2026: 4 months of arrears
  • August 2026: 4 months of arrears

This structure ensures that the full 16 months of arrears will be cleared within the four-month payment window.


GES Directs Immediate Communication to Schools

GES has instructed all Regional Directors to promptly inform Heads of Schools to ensure that affected staff are aware of the development.

The directive has also been copied to key stakeholders, including the Minister for Education and senior officials within the education sector.

Eligible staff who are owed arrears should expect payments to commence in May 2026, subject to payroll processing by the .

Teachers and staff are encouraged to engage their Heads of Schools or District Education Offices for clarification on their eligibility and payment details.
