Three students of Swedru School of Business were arrested in connection with the assault on an Obrachire SHS student during a zonal athletics competition in Agona Swedru.

Three students have been arrested in connection with the assault on a student, an incident captured in a viral video following a recent zonal athletics competition in Agona Swedru.

According to the report, the arrests were made on the night of February 23, 2026, after school authorities handed over the suspects to the Swedru Divisional Police Command at about 9:00 pm.

Suspects Identified

The suspects, all students of Swedru School of Business, have been identified as:

  1. Joseph Amoh, 20 years
  2. Benedict Appiah, 18 years
  3. Bilal Mamud, 18 years

Police confirmed that the three have been taken into custody and will be put before court to face charges related to the assault.

CID Engagement Preceded Arrest

The arrests followed an earlier engagement between the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, and the management of Swedru School of Business on February 23, 2026.

The meeting formed part of ongoing investigations into the violent incident, which occurred during a zonal inter-school athletics competition and resulted in injuries to a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School.

Police Condemn Violence in Schools

In a statement issued by the Central Regional Command and signed by Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie of the Public Affairs Unit, the Police strongly condemned the students’ conduct.

The Command further urged the public, particularly students, to refrain from engaging in acts of violence and indiscipline, stressing that such behaviour undermines the safety and integrity of educational institutions.

Commitment to Justice

The Police assured the public that investigations remain active and that all persons found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The incident has reignited concerns about safety during inter-school sporting events and the need for stricter supervision, improved security presence, and strengthened discipline mechanisms within second-cycle institutions.

Authorities have reiterated that schools must remain safe spaces for learning, growth, and healthy competition, free from intimidation and violence.
